Increase in abortions
(N Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 9. The number of therapeutic abortions performed in public hospitals had increased by more than 700 in the last six years, said the Minister of Health (Mr McGuigan) in Parliament todav.
The average was about 200 a year from 1956 to 1968, but between 1968 and 1970 the number doubled. Since then, there had been a further doubling to 919 last year. Mr McGuigan said the Government did not have information on ail abortions performed in the community.
