Watched by hundreds of thousands of grieving Chinese, General Chiang Kai-shek's body was taken on a slow and solemn. 15mile journey from the hospital in Shihpai where he died on Saturday to the Dr Sun Yatsen Memorial, where it will lie in state until the funeral next Wednesday.
Covered with flowers, the: coffin was placed on a military truck, the cortege being! led by a military band and a ] guard-of-honour from alh three services.
