Dismal trading on Australian markets

Leading industrial shares fell sharply on Australian stock exchanges yesterday, in a session dominated by sellers right throughout the markets.

B.H.P. set the trend from, the opening bell: the shares lost 18c in Sydney to sell at 574 c; in Melbourne sales (closed at 580 c for a fall of 112 c. Last Friday B.H.P. shares at one stage changed hands at 618 c. CSR and Bank of N.S.W.; were also substantial losers:, CSR fell furthest in Sydney; .—27 c to 405 c — while the) , Wales took its worst pound-j ‘ing in Melbourne —30 c to. ,560 c.

Other banking stocks were also hard hit. and property stocks, brewers, retailers, and financiers were also badly affected. Coal stocks also felt the full force of sellers, and leading miners ran out of support. C.R.A. lost 15c, to 170 c, in Sydney, and closed in Melbourne at the same price for a loss of 20c.
