LEONE STEWART)
If you haven’t got around to planning your winter wardrobe, here are a couple of items that are brought to you by some people who always think at least six months ahead.
The slinky, nylon patio dress—in navy with blooms of sky-blue, green, and tan j (above) —and the very latest swimsuit design in bright yellow satin-stretch ’ lycra (right) were stars of “Canterbury Showtime, I 1975.”
They featured in a lively presentation of Lane Walker Rudkin ranges for next summer. There was snappy sportswear, pretty lingerie, lounge - wear, swimwear ... all paraded to the rousing rock beat of a local band.
The clothing showed the company’s move into a more fashion-conscious field with a younger emphasis. And the audience must have been one of the most knowledgeable assembled. The Town Hall I auditorium was packed to capacity with company
staff—and friends. Altogether it was very much a company effort. A team of 15 female and male models was assembled from professionals and staff members. The show’s producer, Mr Barry White, women’s sportswear merchandising manager, put together a bright evening’s entertainment.
The staff presented musical numbers and sketches between the fashion sequences. Add karate displays, a brass band, island dancing, Spanish guitar, and a pop singer, and there was literally something for everyone.
The 400 garments shown were admirably coordinated by Mrs Aina Auzins, former technical production manager who was brought out of recent retirement after 25 years with the company. The whole production was something of an encore after the success of a similar but lessambitious function last year.
