Fare rise rejected
I (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) \ WASHINGTON, March 28. The United States Civil Aeronautics Board has rejected 13 per cent air fare increases proposed by the International Air Transport Association for flights between the United States, and Australia. New Zealand, Tahiti, and other destinations in the South Pacific area.
The C.A.B. said that although costs had gone up, fare increases would raise the rate of return on these routes for Pan American, Trans World Airlines and Northwest Orient above the allowable 12 per cent. The present pacific air fares will remain in effect until I.A.T.A. files a new rate request with the C.A.B However C.A.B. approved North Atlantic fare rises; proposed by I.A.T.A. The new fares — 3 to 16.5 per! cent higher than last year —; become effective on Tuesday 1 and will last until March 31) next year.
