Ipswich Town reached its first F.A. Cup semifinal after battling for seven hours against the league champion, Leeds United. The quarter-final tie was spread over four matches, Ipswich winning a thrilling third replay 3-2 to earn the right to meet West Ham on Saturday week for a place in the final.
The second replay on Tuesday resulted in a’ goalless draw after extra-time. Other results this week:— ENGLISH LEAGUE Division one.—Birmingham 2, Carlisle 0; Liverpool 4, Newcastle 0; Luton 2, Arseal 0. Division two.—Notts County 2. Nottingham Forest 2; Sunderland 2. Oldham 2. Division three.—Crystal Palace 2 Colchester 1; Brighton 2, Bournemouth 1. Division four.—Northampton 0, Mansdeld 2. SCOTTISH LEAGUE Division two.—Albion 2, East Fife 1; Meadowbank 0, East Stirling 2.
