Christchurch man's

A drive-through gate for use with an electric fence that promises to be both efficient and economical has been developed by a Christchurch man. Mr W. T. Stephens, who has an inventive bent.

The “gate” has been under test on Haldon station’s Sommerlea stud Simmental and commercial cattle property at Woodbury, about four miles

from Geraldine, where Mr Stephens’s son-in-law, Mr W. L. Hopkins, >s the manager. The idea for the gate was conceived bv Mr

btephens after another type of drive-though gate being used on the property had been found to scratch vehicles and cattle also had learned to get through it. Mr Stephens came up with the idea during the night after seeing the need for it. It is a “screen” gate. It consists of an insulated screen of wire needles suspended on loops from the electric wire, wnich is supported by two 9ft 6in high < inch galvanised pipes.
