Kotare Legend in sound win at Addington trials

Kotare Legend returned a satisfactory trial for the Easter Cup series, which opens on Saturday, when he outclassed four rivals in the main event at trials held at Addington Raceway yesterday.

Kotare Legend raced in fourth place behind Local Rose, Tamla Motown, and Johnny Kirk, and it was not until the last 200 m that Leicester Tatterson pulled him out.

Kotare Legend gathered ini the other three in a few: strides and raced right awayi to win by four lengths after returning 3:28.45ec for the 2600 m, the final 800 m in klsec, and the iast 400 m in 29.8 sec.

Kotare Legend is in what appears to be the weaker of the two qualifying heats for the Easter Cup to be run on Saturday. If he races with the same dash he will be hard to beat. Kotare Legend will be driven on Saturday by Tatterson. Barry Anderson, who has handled him in most of his races, will continue his association with Commissioner in the same heat.

Tamla Motown, now being trained by Brian Dawson, went a fair race for second, ahead of Johnny Kirk and Local Rose. Drum Major broke at the start. Commissioner, driven by Richard Burton, was under double wraps throughout the event for three-year-olds. He won easily by a length and a quarter from Bronze Regal and Yankee Partner, which: also came on boldly. Com-! missioner took 3:30.1 sec, the' last 800 m in l:l.6sec. He, looks in great heart for his: big test in the second heat: of the Easter Cup on Satur-| day.

Bronze Regal and Yankeej Partner both shaped pleasingly for their engagements among their own age group on Saturday. Promising The inexperienced Roman; Senator, a recent qualifier, showed great promise when i he won the race for CO trot-i ters. After losing ground at'

the start, he went to the front at the 1200 m and raced right away to win by 15 lengths from Cautious Day and Zalman King.

A gelding by Westland King from Superway, Roman Senator is trained by Kevin Ryder at Yaldhurst. He has a fine style of trotting and will not be out of his depth in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes next week.

Another Trotting Stakes candidate in Alias Artnbro finished boldly to run Armbro Lady to a short length in their race. Armbro Lady’s run was her best for some time and she will be a prospect in the Spreydon Handicap on Saturday.

Ad Infinitum, which is to race against the three-year-olds on Saturday, showed speed to win the event for CO pacers. He won comfortably by a length from Jascoe and Mulvena’s Pride. His 3:31.85ec for the 2600 m was a smart run in the conditions. He took 32sec for his last 400 m.

Van Fair shaped encouragingly when he won rhe main event for trotters, i recording 3:31.95ee for 2600 m, the last 800 m in il:2sec. He was showing up I wide out at the straight en- ! trance and ran on much more determinedly than he has in earlier appearances. Nevele Rodney, after leading early, lost a handy position and finished solidly for second, ahead of Rodney Dale and Edis Nova, which was doing better than anything at the line.

Gay Tennessee and Combine, both of which broke at the start, filled the first two placings in their race, with

Gay Tennessee doing best to win by a head. They took 59.45ec for the final 800 m, I with the last 400 m in

29.8 sec. Both look ready to win at the Easter meeting. Strauss gave an improved display to win the Cl and C2 Pace. He beat the pacemaker, Happy King, bv half a length, with Tiberius, Chase Me and Kancho next. The winner took 3:30.45ec for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in l:2.Bsec. Results:—
