New comedy
The “Swinging S'eventies” is an era in which young; men and women live together on a purely businesslike] basis, sharing nothing morel than rent, chores and ex-; penses. Other generations find this hard to accept.
The fun — and the complications — of mixed flatsharing provide the comedy in Thames Television’s Man About the House, starring Richard O'Sullivan (the obnoxious Bingham from the “Doctor” series), Paula Willcox and Sally Thomsett. The two girls, Jo and Chrissy, need a third person to share the rent. Robin needs somewhere to live. The solution seems obvious .. . especially when Robin turns out to be a catering student with a dab hand at oeufs Catalienne, and the; girls are dreading a future of tins and instant mash. But there are other people to be convinced, including' Mr and Mrs Roper. In addition to being landlords, they; live downstairs, where it is ; easy to keep a close eye on the affairs of their tenants.; iAnd the first episodes un-l I cover their mixed reactions to the new domestic set-up upstairs. "A Man About The 'House”, will begin screening on Saturday.
