Victory for Ponsonby

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PRETORIA. The touring New Zealand Rugby union club Ponsonby scored a well-deserved 9-6 victory over Pretoria Police in Pretoria after leading 6-0 at half-time. But a second team from New Zealand, Waitete, lost. 0-3, to an East London XV in the first match of their seven-game tour of South Africa. The Ponsonby match was notable for some fine, thrusting play by the New Zealand loose-forwards. The wing three-quarter, Terry Morrison, raced 50 yards for the only try, and the centre. Bryan Williams, converted it. In the second half Williams took Ponsonby’s tally to nine with a penalty.
