Eye damage permanent

Russell Skurrett, the touring Christchurch Rugby team hooker, still has not regained the sight in his . left eye, which was poked during a torrid match between Christchurch and the Brisbane chamCion team, Brothers, at Brisane on Sunday. The teams di’.w, 12-12. Skerrett, aged 25, was unable to see anything with the eye when a specialist examined him on Monday, at the home of his sister, Mrs J. Richards, In Aspley. The specialist ordered him to stay in bed until Friday, when he will undergo a more searching examination. "He couldn't see a thing," said Mrs Richardson. "He always has had perfect - vision. Yesterday, he wasn't able to i» ad letters which were easily an Inch tail.
"The doctor said that, at best, he might regain 50 per eent vision out of the eye, but he will certainly have to wear glasses." It is extremely doubtful that Skerrett will be abVt to accompany the Christchurch team when it leaves Brisbane for Sydney on Saturday.
"I suppose he will be abe to continue playing football, although it seems certain that he will have to drop down a grac*\ He wouldn't be able to go back on a field for at least a month," Mrs Richard said.
