The total excluded full figures from China, Russia, and Rumania. As in 1973, Sweden was second, West Germany third, and Spain fourth, turning out 2.2 m tors, 2.1 m tons, and 1.6 m tons respectively.
Britain was fifth with 1.2 m tons — an increase of more than 10 per cent over 1973. It was the country's highest output since 1971. The Lloyds figures put Denmark, France, and Itaiv just behind Britain in the tonnage league.
