Boys admit taking car
(From Our . Own Reporter) NELSON, March 11. Three Timaru boys who admitted converting a car in Nelson yesterday were convicted and remanded on bail to the Children’s Court at Timaru when thev appeared before Mr J. W. P 'Watts, S.M., in the Nelson Children’s Court today. Detective-Sergeant E. R. Tyson told the Court that the boys were seen by the owner to take the car and head towards Havelock. There, at a road block, the youths were waved down, but they accelerated away, and later disappeared Into scrub. During the evening the boys got wet in crossing a river, and about 10 p.m. telephoned the police in Blenheim and gave themselves up, said Sergeant Tyson. They said they were taking the car to the Picton ferry, and intended to travel to Gisborne. The ear was not damaged. Two of the boys were 16 and the other 15, he said.
