IRANIANS IN OMAN
Threat, says Gadaffi
(N. Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAIRO, March 3.
Libya has called for immediate unified Arab action to evict Iranian troops from the Gulf State of Oman. The call has come in a message to the Arab League from the Libyan leader, Colonel Gadaffi, who regards an Iranian presence in Oman as a threat to the entire Gulf area.
Iranian troops have been in Oman helping to fight Left-wing insurgents there for about two years, at the request of the Omani ruler (Sultan Qaboos Bin). On Friday, Colonel Gaddafi was reported by the Libyan news agency, A.R.N.A., as having sent the Sultan a message, giving a warning that war would break out if the Iranians were not evicted. Libya was ready to fight them, he said. Colonel Gadaffi alleged that Iran had a elan to dominate the Gulf area, and that her recent border clashes with Iraq were part of this.
