Shipping Co. post
Mr M. J. Smith, of Wellington, has been appointed deputy genera] manager of the New Zealand Shipping Corporation. He was previously the corporation’s agencies division manager. Mr Smith, who is 44, has had 28 years in the shipping industry. He joined the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company in 1947, and spent time in London as well as Auckland before being seconded to the Crusader Shipping Company in 1957.
He later returned to Shaw Savill, and rose to become the company’s general manager in New Zealand. At this time, in 1973, Mr Smith was also a director of 16 other companies, and chairman of five. He joined the New Zealand Shipping Corporation late last year.
