Banking issues boost trade in Australia
News that the A.N.Z.! Bank was reducing itsP borrotving and lending j rates prompted good!; buying demand for banking issues on Australian exchanges yes-; terday. [ The Bank of New South Wales made a 10c improve- [ ment to 600 c. Both the : iC.B.C. and the C.B.A. re- 1 corded 10c gains, and the A.N.Z. jumped 14c to 526 c, [after attracting little interest [in the morning session. I Financier stocks qiiickly followed suit, I.A.C. rising :6c to 83c. i Brewers were in demand, particularly C.U.8., Swan, and Tooth. In a firm properties section, Hooker jumped 14c to 118 c and Lend Lease made a 5c improvement, to 240 c. On the mining board good rises were registered by I Broken Hill South. Ham- , mersley, M.1.M., and Western Mining. There was little interest in gold and uranium issues, al- [ though Peko managed a 5c improvement to 335 c. The: only other uranium issue to[ firm was Queensland Mines,, up 6c to 98c. J
