Training scheme at Repertory
Wendy de la Bere and Colin Alexander will iagain be tutors for the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society’s training school this year. Enrolments for both weekly classes will be taken on Saturday morning in the theatre Green Room from 10 a.m.
As a departure from her normal training course, Wendy de la Bere, who has an extensive knowledge and experience of Shakespearean production, will offer a 12week course on Wednesday evenings, from March 12, entitled “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.” The aim is to renew the student’s friendship with Shakespeare or enhance an appreciation of his plays. Both the Comedies and the Tragedies’ will be included in the course. Mrs de la Bere wants to encourage men and women who used to act and would like to do so again, but are perhaps now too busy to spend several weeks rehearsing for a major production. There is no age limit.
A similar course Mrs de la Bere held for the W.E.A. a few years ago was very popular.
Colin Alexander will conduct an acting course with Saturday morning classes from March 15 until the end of the second school term. Though there is no age restriction, the course is limited to 20 pupils. Mt Alexander, a graduate
of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, will give instruction in acting, movement, voice production, speech and characterisation, as well as other aspects of theatre. Both tutors plan public performances at the end of each course.
