Bananas dearer
(N Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. The retail price of bananas has risen.
Ecuador bananas have gone up from 22c per lb to a maximum of 25c, and Island bananas from 18c to 20c.
“Ecuadorean bananas have gone up because the cost is governed by world prices,” a spokesman for Fruit Distributors, Wellington, said today. “Island bananas have gone up because we are trying to recover losses on Island bananas. There is a lot of wastage,” he said.
