Garden series ends
Gardening enthusiasts have seen the last screening of the programmes conducted by Mr John Oliver, of Christchurch. “I am giving up for personal reasons, and I want :to make it quite clear the request dame from me,” said Mr Oliver. He has been conducting the CHTV-3 gardening session for about six vears. Just what will replace Mr Oliver’s session is not yet clear. Mr W. S. Munro, programme controller for Television One, which will come ion air on April 1, said he favoured a national gardening programme. Also being investigated by Television One planners are five-minute local gardening ■ sessions. It has been suggested that lif a proposal for extended 'viewing hours is adopted, these short programmes could be shown at lunch-time at
the week-ends —the time' when week-end home garden ers are gathering strength for an afternoon in the garden. Indications are that TV-2 will have a local gardening session designed for Christ-' I church viewers. “We are interested in the communitv, so we are bound to have local gardening pro-! grammes,” said the programme manager in Christchurch for TV-2 (Mr Rod [Cornelius). .
