REGISTRATION OF CONTRACTORS SYSTEM BUILT HOUSING Applications are invited from contractors who wish to be considered for registration as tenderers for the supply and erection of system-built houses and associated site works. The Commission’s principal objectives for this project are:— • To encourage the development of new building systems not used in Canberra housing at present. • To allow an assessment of the range of building systems present available in Australia. • To provide groups of prototype houses, six in each, for evaluation by the Commission (and private enterprise) with a view to letting one or more large-scale housing contracts at a later date at competitive prices. • To achieve a cost structure related to established government housing costs. Houses are to be three bedroom units of approx. 107 square metres gross area, for erection on serviced sites in the Canberra area. Industrialised techniques are to be incorporated in the building system, and it is expected that houses will be factory manufactured complete or in component parts and transported to site. Systems should make the least possible demands for on site skilled labour. Contractors should have experience in the system proposed and must demonstrate their capacity to carry out the protoype programme. When registrations have closed, selected registrants will be invited to submit detailed tender proposals. The Commission reserves the right not be proceed with any or all of the proposals submitted. Interested contractors may obtain registration documents from the Commission's agent architects, Leigh and Bartlett Pty. Ltd. Architects and Engineers, 217 Northbourne Avenue, Turner ACT 2601 on or after Monday, February 24 1975. The completed registration document is to be lodged with the Secretary and Manager, Nat.onal Capital Development Commission, P.O. Box 373, Canberra City ACT 2601, on or before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 1975.
