Water-main wanted for fire-fighting
Properties at Cass Bay. Corsair Bay and Rupaki were at risk from lack of water in the event of a fire, said Cr A. TeR. Couch, at a meeting of the .Mount Herbert County Council on Friday.
He said the Lyttelton Borough Council should be asked to extend its four-inch main to the borough-county boundary at Rapaki. The Rapaki reservoir, he said, had been empty twice this year. The council referred the request to the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board with which the Lyttelton and Governor’s Bay volunteer fire brigades are associated. New member. — Cr A. Couch, elected to a Port Victoria riding seat at a byelection on February 1. was welcomed by the chairman (Mr D. Blakely). Another newcomer was Mr K. D. Stills, the Heathcote County Clerk, who has taken the Mount Herbert job after the resignation of Mr C. 0. Spiller. Reserve. — Solicitors for Mr G P. O’Farreil asked the council to complete forma-i
lities for the transfer of 10 acres- of his land on the Summit Road to the council for use as a recreational reserve. Cr B. S. Johns was asked to investigate and report back.
