Sharpe in form for national marathon

Canterbury's leading marathon runner, Roger Sharpe (New Brighton), showed that he is in excellent form for the national marathon championship at Dunedin next week-end when he won the 20,000 metres inter-club road race on Saturday. Sharpe's time for the I2j-mile, point-to-point race from Mather’s Road to finish at the Tai Tapu Hotel was 64mln Usee. He looked strong throughout the race. Gavin Donaldson, of the Christchurch Harrier Club, was second, about 2min further back. The Canterbury 10,000 metres and 5000 metres representative. Tony Good, showed strong form, running in easily for third. Peter McLauchlan i Olympic), in his first season in the A grade, ran an excellent race for fourth. Intermittent drizzle and a following breeze made ideal conditions. Times in all four grades were of a high standard.

, The race, run for the first jtlrne. proved popular, and attracted more than 8(1 starters from 110 different clubs.
