Radio, TV jobs

Most of the staff of the N.Z.B.C. have been appointed to new jobs with one or other i of the new television channels, Radio New Zealand or the Broadcasting Council, the chairman of the council (Sir Alister Mclntosh) has said in a statement.

More than 2200 individual letters had been sent to N.Z.B.C. staff members telling them where they would be placed, or appointing them to staff jobs with one of the three broadcasting organisations. Those in departments such as engineering, accounts and transmission would be employed by the Broadcasting Council itself and would service all three corporations. Sir Alister said.

About another 450 staff members, who had not yet been officially informed, were, however, aware of which of the new services they would join on April 1. Many of those still to be appointed to their new jobs were in the news area. These appointments had to wait until senior newsmen, who were closely involved in setting up new departments and selecting staff, had taken up their positions. This had now happened, and most of the outstanding appointments would soon be finalised, Sir Alister said.
