Application refused
Proposals by the Canterbury Steam Preservation Society to use an old prefabricated school classroom at its property at McLean’s Island were not accepted by the Paparua Rural District Council yesterday. The County Engineer (Mr J. D. Annan) said the building appeared to be in “a rather poor condition.” On his recommendation, the society’s request was refused. Road weeds.— Whereas (the Noxious Weeds Act made occupiers responsible for clearing weeds to the road centre line, the Noxious Plants Bill made road frontages the responsibility of councils, said the noxious weeds inspector (Mr R. F. Forsythe). Petition.— The council decided to consider with this year’s estimates a request from 18 Larcombes Road residents for the completion of the sealing of the road.
Hall work.— A grant of $lOOO was made towards the cost of improvements to the Prebbleton Hall.
