Matai sale progress
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. Negotiations on the future of the defunct West Coastbased Matai Industries should be completed within the next few weeks, the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Tizard) said today. Mr Tizard said after the Cabinet meeting today that considerable progress had been made in selling off three of the four main spheres of operation of Matai. In line with the Government’s policy of selling each part as a going concern, final negotiations were continuing for the plastics, metalworking and primary toymaking sections. But Mr Tizard said it seemed unlikely that the fourth sphere — woodworking — would be taken up as a going concern.
