I.H.C. APPEAL $36,000 raised in Christchurch
More than $36,000 was collected in the Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Society’s annual appeal in Christchurch on Saturday and the total amount collected in Canterbury is expected to he much greater ‘han it has been for vears. The president of the Canterbury branch of the society (Mr C. H. G. Curragh) said yesterday that the amount collected in Christchurch alone was $2500 more than the total amount collected in Canterbury last year. The area from the Kakaia River to the Hurunui River was canvassed by the branch and more than 3000 coi’ectors helped with the task. Mr Curragh said that un behalf of the society he wished to thank all those who willingly assisted with collecting. driving and organising the appeal. The national total was $475,000. almost 10 per cent more than last year, reports the Press Association. The society’s national president (Dr D. M. G. Beasley) said yesterday that with late donations the total would probably exceed $500,000. People who have not been
