People living longer
GENEVA. Feb 23 ! People born in the year 2000 will have a life expectancy of 75 to 80 years in developed countries and 60 to 65 years in Third World countries, the World Health Organisation predicts. Improvements in living sundards, particularly nutrition, stable government, progress in education, roads and other communication systems, and advances in medical knowledge, public health and saniution contribute to this “striking leap forward.” in life expectancy, the organisation says. People in developed countries now have a life expectancy of 71 years. In less developed countries it rose i,to 53 in 1970. compared with 32 years in 1935-1939— which was about the same as at th< height of the Roman Empire
