Director dies
George E. Marshall, director of more than 425 movies, including some of the most popular Hollywood films, has died in hospital after a two-week illness. He was 84. Marshall, who made a specialty of comedy, directed some of the early Laurel and Hardy and W. C. Fields movies, and some of the more recent comedy stars like Bob Hope, Lucille Ball and Jerry Lewis.
