Surcharge on cargo

A 50c a tonne surcharge, would now be made on cargo delivered through the Cashin Quay transit sheds, making the total delivery charge $3.90 a tonne, said the general manager of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (Mr J. A. McPhail). Mr McPhail said that because the Railways Depart|ment was unable to cope with {cargo through E shed the I transit sheds at Cashin Quay jhad to work in congested conditions. The delivery section of the Stevedoring and Warfingering Company, Ltd, {had incurred a substantial Hoss last year and it was decided to apply the 50c surcharge.
