Colour in bridal fashions

Pure white bridal gowns must be becoming passe. That is how it seemed at a parade of wedding fashions for 1975 lat the Limes Room last evening. Golour was the keynote to I many of the more than 20 bridal gowns, shown to raise 'money for the Canterbury and West Coast Cancer Research Unit. Aqua marine, lilac, and ;coral gowns were an attractive departure from convention. Perhaps it is a sign of these write-your-own ceremony, have-your-wedding-outdoors times. Cream and beige fabrics, often more flattering than white, seemed to predominate. The traditional white was often decorated with ‘coloured ribbons and applique. There was even a black and white gown in the collection, which was designed and made by Eliza-beth-Anne of Christchurch. She created styles to suit all tastes, from simple elegance to girlish, pretty looks. Seven designs for mothers-of-the-brides were also shown. The “brides” were escorted by officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, all in full dress uniform to add a touch of “The Regiment”-style splendour. The gown shown at right was in soft aqua chiffon, i bound with dark blue and lilac ribbons. Its floating skirt was formed by 28 1 panels. The jacket, also I bound in blue and lilac ribbons, was mounted on or- I ganza. ;
