BISHOP’S DEATH
Cardinal: ‘No clear picture

PARIS, February 20
The office of the Archbishop of Paris has reported that its investigation into (how a bishop died in a hotel used by prostitutes failed to produce a clear picture of the circumstances.
) The report, signed by the Archbishop (Cardinal Franicis Marty) asserted, however, .that the facts surrounding ) the death of Monsignor Roger [Tort, aged 56, the Bishop of Montauban, “could not justify interpretations throwing discredit on the evidence of a lifetime.”
A police report said that the bishop apparently sought [refuge in the hotel after {being taken ill, but the [weekly newspaper, "Le Can)ard Enchaine,” alleged that “the victim was clearly dressed with haste.” Apparently because the Church had been embarrassed seven months before by the death of Cardinal Jean Danielou, aged 69, in a go-go girl’s flat. Cardinal Marty ordered an immediate investigation.
