Jiminy to boost cricket . . .
(K Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON.
English cricket is enlisting the help of a cartoon character to publicise the 1975 season.
Jiminy Cricket, the Walt Disney character from the film Pinocchio, will help boost the coming season during which the first World Cup competition will be held. Cricket will receive from the Disney organisation 50 per cent of the royalties obtained from merchandising Jiminy Cricket material.
The former England batsman, Raman Subba Row, chairman of the Test and Count}’ Cricket Board’s publicity committee, discounted suggestions that the campaign might cheapen cricket.
“Look at the accounts of country clubs for 1974
and it is obvious that the game has to advertise itself and make money,” he said.
