Parker replaces Turner in N.Z. team
John Parker (Northern Districts) has replaced his Worcestershire team - mate, Glenn Turner, in the New Zealand cricket team to play in the Gillette Cup knockout cricket final against Western Australia next Sunday.
Turner has been omitted at his own request; he wants a complete break of 10 days to a fortnight from cricket, said Mr W. A. Hadlee, the chairman of the Cricket Council’s board of control.
After playing for New Zealand in its successful semi-final against Tasmania a little more than a week ago, Turner also said he felt New Zealand should not be competing against state sides. This is probably another factor in his withdrawal.
The New Zealand team is:—
B. E. Congdon (captain), G. E. Edwards, J. F. M. Morrison, B. F. Hastings, Parker, G. P. Howarth, K. J. Wadsworth, H. J. Howarth, D. R. Hadlee, R. O. Collinge, B. L. Cairns, E. J. Chatfield.
