Toy library
A toy library for the handicapped in Christchurch could not conveniently be housed in the Canterbury Public Library, the City Librarian (Mr J. E. D. Stringleman) said yesterday. The administration of a toy library would need to be in the hands of an organisation such as the Hospital Board or the Department of Education, which had ready access to professional services, he said.-
The City Council's Welfare Committee has been looking into the prospects of a toy library for Christchurch, and its accommodation within the present public library. The report prepared for the committee by the district psychologist of the Department of Education placed so much emphasis on the need for specialist screening and guidance in the use of toy libraries for the handicapped, that the possibility of a public library being involved was out of the question, Mr Stringieman said.
