Aust. Premiers in London
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 27.
The Premiers of Queensland and Western Australia are putting the finishing touches to their case on Australian states’ rights, and will present their brief personally to a senior official of the British Foreign Office in London today. Mr John Bjelke-Petersen and Sir Charles Court will urge Britain to preserve states’ rights they allege the Labour Government in Canberra is trying to whittle away.
The case will deal with state appeals to the Privy Council, the role of State Agents-General in London, and other matters.
Mr Bjelke-Petersen said last night: “Our submission to Britain will not be voluminous, but it will set out the states’ case very carefully, fully, and accurately. “Our Government’s advisers, including academic experts at Oxford, have been preparing research for the case for some time.”
