Socialists will not withdraw
(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) LISBON, Jan. 27. The Portuguese Socialist Party does not intend to withdraw from the Provisional Government in Lisbon, according to informed sources close to the party. The decision, taken at a meeting of the party’s central committee yesterday, is likely to be announced formally later today, the sources say.
The party’s move follows a Government crisis over a controversial trade - union law, approved by the Cabinet last Wednesday, which effectively puts the country’s unions under Communist '’ontrol by obliging them to group in a single confederation.
The Socialist Party and the Centre-Left Popular Democratic Party have condemned the law as unconstitutional and undemocratic.
