The question, “Should the State break the law to prosecute the law?” is raised by the situation since the quashing of the warrant to search the Remuera abortion clinic, 'says Dr W. C. Hodge, lecturer in law at Auckland Uniiversity. | Speaking for the Auckland I Council for Civil Liberties, he 'said the law seemed clear that, in spite, of the illegality of doing so, the police could I retain potential evidence. ! “The real question is the [degree of fundamental fairness in using evidence, now illegally obtained, at a subsequent trial,” he said.
Tennis.—The top seed, Bob Hewitt (South Africa) beat the sixth-ranked John Yulll (South Africa), 7-6. 6-2, to win the men’s Isingles title at the Natal international tennis tournament.
