Young Quinn expected to beat Robalan

(“The Press" Special Service)

WELLINGTON.

Tonight’s Wellington Trotting Cup field may only be small in number, but it represents in quality as good a field as has been seen on a trotting track this season.

Top of the pacing ratings at the moment would be Young Quinn and Robalan, with Hi Foyle, Kotare Legend and Speedy Guest not that far below.

Kotare Legend will not be at Hutt Park, but the other four will and they will be the drawcard for tonight’s! 510,000 2400 m event. The arguments about the ability of Young Quinn and Robalan are endless. Young Quinn won the Auckland Cup, Robalan the New Zealand Cup and the honours are just about even. Robalan was the master at the Addington Cup meeting,

■but Young Quinn won the Stars Travel and then the Auckland Cup By 10 lengths. In tonight’s field of nine, both will start from the back mark of 35m.

FOUR ON END Since his defeat in the Flying Mile at Auckland, Young Quinn has won the Pezaro Memorial, the Auckland Cup, the Waikato Flying Mile and the Pacific Handicap at Hutt Park on Saturday night. Since his second at Auckland Robalan has managed a win at Addington in his only run. His programme has been thrown out of line be-

[cause of infection but from all accounts he has made good progress since the week-end.

Speedy Guest, which went within an ace of beating Young Quinn on Saturday, meets his conqueror on 10m better terms tonight so his chance of making a race of it with the backmarkers looks good.

Speedy Guest is a very capable pacer, as is his stablemate, David Garrison, which was fifth in the Pacific Handicap. The latter was left out in the open on Saturday night and as a result faded a little over the closing stages.

Hi Foyle, which beat only two of eight home on Saturday, gets 25m from both Robalan and Young Quinn but he would probably need all of that and more to beat them.

Van Glory and Koarakau must rate as chances. Van Glory, a stablemate of Robalan, was a fine third in the Pacific Handicap and in the same event Koarakau ran a sound race for fourth.

The second leg will be the Ro.vdon Stakes for two-year-olds. The race looks to be dominated by four runners. Fancy Fred, Main Adios and Fabriani, all off the 10m mark, and Beau James off 20m.
