Convoy St house damaged
The former headquarters of the Devil’s Henchmen motor-cycle gang at 3 Convoy Street, New Brighton, was severely damaged by fire early this morning. Flames were breaking through the roof and front rooms when engines from New Brighton and headquarters arrived. Fire was first seen by a member of the New Brighton brigade about midnight. “There is not really very —uch left,” Divisional Officer D. T. Stickings, the officer in charge, said afterwards.
“The place had been pretty much damaged by the last three fires, and this one seems to have finished it off.” No-one was home during the fire. The police said that the Devil’s Henchmen left it before Christmas and the power was cut off after the fire there last week.
A petrol bomb is believed to have started the blaze. Residents said they heard a motor-cycle leaving shortly before the fire was noticed.
Only two rooms and part of the walls are now left of the house.
