ADMIRAL’S CUP

(N.Z. Press Association > AUCKLAND. After a day on which the fleet drifted more than it sailed, the fourth Admiral's Cup trial was heading towards a brisk finish. Picking up a nor-easter as the daylight faded, there were reports of yachts doing eight knots on a spinnaker reach on the final leg of the course, from Flat Rock to the Orakei wharf.

Quando (Jim Edmonds) was a minute and a half behind Corinthian (Duss Hooper), with Gerontius (Graham Elder) only another few minutes astern.

While the big boats were having their tussle, contenders for the over-all win on rating, Barnacle Bill (Ron Jarden and Ray Haslar) and Inca (Evan Julian and Roy Dickson) were also tussling.

And there was still a chance that the winner of the first race, Koamaru (Brian Millar), and the Whangarei yacht Agressor (Vic Colson), were in the hunt to oust Corinthian, Gerontius, and Quando from the minor placings.
