SQUASH RACKETS
Preston top ranking
D. R. Preston, the former national representative, heads the ranking list issued by the Canterbury squash rackets selector, Mr L. G. Milne. Preston lost twice to local players in inter-club play, but in tournament play he was clearly top. Consistent performances by V. J. W. Hargreaves have given him an unquestioned second place in spite of a strong challenge by M. Billington. Billington scored wins over both Preston and Hargreaves in inter-club play, but losses to lower-rated players make the third ranking appropriate.
Mrs K. Graham had a good season, finishing at number eight on the New Zealand list and fully deserved to be Canterbury’s top woman. She lost to Miss R. Stanton (2) and Miss P. Lush (3) in mid-season but was clearly superior in the national teams’ event.
The full rankings are.— Men: Preston 1, Hargreaves 2, Billington 3, I. B. McNeil 4. M. D. Grant 5, G. L. Bird 6, L. C. Sparks 7. L. P. Skurr 8, J. G. Foulds 9. W. J. Tolchard 10.
