COMMITTEE DISBANDED
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Government will disband the Recreation and Youth Activities Distribution Committee, which was established to make grants from lottery profits. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr May) said that the committee—one of six distributing agencies established —was performing the same function as the Ministry of Recreation and Sport, and was thus unnecessary.
The amount of finance needed for recreational and sporting facilities was far more than could be provided by lottery profits alone, and the Government had decided to take direct responsibility. All commitments made by the committee would be honoured, he said. The committee will disband on December 18, when the three-year term of office of the members expires.
