Chickens to be cheaper
The price of chickens will be reduced before Christmas, Tegal General Foods has announced.
The Tegal marketing manager (Mr G. Williams) said that price reductions would vary with the size of the bird, but housewives should benefit from a price-cut of between 35c and 55c. Chickens were already cheaper in most shops than at this time of year, said Mr Williams, and from December 16 virtually every store in New Zealand would have the cheap birds. Production has increased this year to the point where retailers could be offered discounts on all sizes of chickens.
Christchurch retailers who were questioned about the matter said that they would pass on the reduced prices to the consumer.
