Brabin Cup squad
The Canterbury cricket team to contest the Brabin Cup in Wellington from December 30 to January 4 was announced yesterday by the selectors (Messrs J. W. Grocott, R. C. Motz and D. J. McKendry). It is:—
R. Wilson, Mark Johnston, G. Bateman (Lancaster Park); B. Ritchie (High School Old Boys); D. Williams (Burnside West); T. Murdoch (Riccarton); C. Marks. D. Bull (Christchurch 8.H.5.); J. Langley (East-Shirley); Michael Johnston (North Canterbury); H. King, W. Eddington (South Canterbury).
Scores of the two trial matches played yesterday were: Suburban Colts 203/7 declared (J. Wilson 39, P. Burton 38, N. Petrie 28. D. Bull 34 not out; A. Nixon 4/53), Brabin XI 146/5 (R. More 41, S. Girvan 38 not out, I. Gordon 40 not out; N. Dlerek 2/29).
Brabin XI 189/8 declared (Ritchie 86, Mark Johnston 53, D. Williams 30; King 2/44, Eddington 2/31), South Canterbury 175 (J. Gloag 38, Eddington 33, J. Davies 31. L. Williams 29; Marks 4/35, Murdoch 2/18).
