Hunters to form assn
An attempt will be made in Ashburton to establish the first South Island branch of the New Zealand Big Game Hunters’ Association. A spokesman for the association said the meeting would give interested people the opportunity of becoming involved in the conservation of New Zealand's diminishing wildlife. The meeting would be held in the Ashburton Public Library, on Monday, December 9.
Once a branch had been formed, instruction would be given to members on the safe use of firearms, bushcraft, river crossing techniques, and methods •of hunting in the high country, the spokesman continued.
“Membership of the club will not be open to people interested in the commercial recovery of wildlife.”
The club would have a special appeal to people who were interested in furthering their knowledge of the flora and fauna of the high country, he said.
