'Greig, made his highest I first-class score of 167 not lout yesterday and put the | M.C.C. in a strong position I at the end of the second day lof the match against Western Australia. Greig's previous top score was 156 for Sussex against Lancashire in a championship game in 1967. Yester day, he batted for more than four hours, and hit 15 fours and two towering sixes, including one that broke a pane of glass in the mem bers’ bar. He came to the wicket with the M.C.C. struggling at six for two after B. W. Luckhurst and M. H. Denness were dismissed in the first three overs. Greig rattled on the runs at such a pace that Denness was able to declare an hour before stumps at 314 for five. Western Australia, which had earlier declared its first innings at the overnight total of 265 for eight, was 20 for one at the close—29 runs behind. However, the M.C.C.’s injury-prone team suffered another set-back when K. W. Fletcher hurt an elbow at net practice in the morning and could not bat or field.
