Govt urged to sack Gideon Tait
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND.
Five Auckland groups have sent a letter to the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) calling on the Government to dismiss the head of the Auckland police district (Assistant Commissioner Gideon Tait). The letter was drafted by members of Nga Tamatoa, the Young Christian Workers, the Auckland Committee on Racism and Discrimination, the Citizens’ Association for Racial Equality and the Polynesian Panthers.
The groups said they considered that because of many of the statements made by Mr Tait, and particularly statements about his reception on the Mangere marae, the assistant commissioner should be dismissed.
