Accord on European summit

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) RAMBOUILLET (France), Dec. 18. The General Secretary of the Soviet Union Communist Party (Mr Brezhnev) flew back to Moscow yesterday after winning the support of President Giscard d’Estaing of France for an East-West summit conference on European security next year. A joint French-Soviet communique said that prospects now existed for a swift conclusion of the two-year-old European Security Conference, and that this should be wound up by Heads of Government personally signing the final accords. The joint communique also declares that lasting peace in the Middle East could only be achieved if Israel withdrew from all Arab territory captured during the six-day war of June, 1967.

In the past, French Government spokesmen have left open the possibility that minor changes might be made in Israel’s pre-1967 boundaries as part of a Middle East peace settlement.
