BARTONS CASE
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) ASUNCION, Dec. 8. All five members of the Paraguay Supreme Court have been summoned for questioning by a lower court judge investigating the granting of Paraguayan citizenship to the former Sydney financiers, Alexander and Thomas Barton.
The Bartons, father and son, who are wanted in Australia to face charges of fraud and embezzlement in New South Wales, were granted Paraguyan citizenship by the Supreme Court last August, but the Court reversed its decision two weeks ago on the ground that the documents submitted by the Bartons to obtain citizenship had been falsified. Judge Heriberto Vidal Lovera, who is investigating the case, released the Bartons on bail earlier this week, but told them that they must remain in Paraguay to face the charges. He also summoned the members of the Supreme Court to testify, and they are expected to appear before him some time next week.
Two Paraguayans suspected of complicity in the case are being held under arrest, and the judge has ordered the arrest of two others.
Australia is expected to submit a formal request for the extradition of the Bartons later this month.
