RAFFLES OFF
AUCKLAND. Nov. 26. The Ponsonby Rugby Club will call off the fundraising raffles It holds in Auckland hotels, because of a threat by the Brewery Workers' Union. The president of the union (Mr R. J. Gunn) said today that as a mark of opposition to the club's plan to tour South Africa, beer deliveries would be banned to hotels where the club held raffles. The club uses the raffles as a main source of finance for its proposed new clubhouse.
The president of the club (Mr O. Donaldson) said the raffles had no connection with the tour, which would not cost the club a cent.
